Post with 1 note
Uburanga is a Kinyarwanda word meaning beauty.
At Uburanga Arts Studio, it is the goal of the artists to build a sustainable future for Rwandan contemporary art while positively impacting Rwanda’s society and culture.
Bakunzi Jean Bosco was born on October 30th, 1985 in Kigali, Rwanda. Although he has been influenced by many visual artists, Bakunzi Jean Bosco is self-taught, creating art professionally since 2005. Bakunzi finds inspiration in the natural world, Rwandan culture, and his everyday surroundings. He has been motivated in his career by the belief that art has the power to heal people physically, mentally, and emotionally.
In March, 2010 Bakunzi founded Rwanda’s leading art center, Uburanga Arts Studio. This studio brings together the most skilled and talented artists from all over the country with the goal of developing Rwanda’s fine art scene.
Bakunzi, along with other artists from Uburanga Arts Studio, also donates his time to orphans and vulnerable children from different Kigali neighborhoods teaching arts and crafts. The goal of this project is to teach disadvantaged children marketable skills such as greeting card designing and creating and jewelry making. All proceeds from the children’s products help the children afford school fees, health care costs, and other living expenses.
In addition to the Uburanga Arts Studio neighborhood children’s project, Bakunzi uses his talent to teach arts and crafts to the children at Gisimba Memorial Center (GMC) orphanage. He also works and volunteers at Rwandan orphanages and hospitals, painting murals sponsored by both private individuals and NGOs.
Through these projects, Bakunzi Jean Bosco is able to help children deal with the traumas they have faced in their lives while also developing their skills and creativity so that they can look to a better future.
Uburanga Arts Studio is open to the public seven days a week from 9 am to 8 pm. We are located in Kigali in Kimihurura on Rugando Street, take the cobblestone behind Lemigo Hotel.
